Fabric Requirements for Background

Below I've included yardage requirements for your background fabric.
If you plan on using just 1 background fabric for the entire quilt, it's recommended that you purchase your fabric all at once. If you prefer a scrappy or pieced background for your blocks, an assortment of Fat Quarters will work great too.

Note: if purchasing a fabric kit from a participating Quilt Shop, be sure to ask if the background fabric is included. Some shops may offer a yardage discount, while others will include background fabric in each of their kits.

Fabric Requirements:

If you choose NOT to enlarge your patterns and create 9" finished size blocks you will need 3 yards of background fabric. Cut each of your (25) background squares 10" or 10.5". You will will square these up and cut down to 9.5" after the block is finished.

If making 16" finished size blocks you will need 6 and 1/2 yards of background fabric. (will give you 2 extra squares) Or 25 FQ's if you want to make the background of your quilt super scrappy. Cut each of your (25) background squares at 17.5" square. (you will square these up and cut down to 16.5" after the block is finished)

If making 20" finished size blocks you will need 9 and 3/4 yards of background fabric. (providing your fabric is at least 42/43") If your fabric is 43" wide - cut your (25) background squares 21.5". You will trim them down to 20.5 after the block is finished.
